Failing and Flying

Standard

Everyone forgets that Icarus also flew.

It’s the same when love comes to an end,

or the marriage fails and people say

they knew it was a mistake, that everybody

said it would never work. That she was

old enough to know better. But anything

worth doing is worth doing badly.

Like being there by that summer ocean

on the other side of the island while

love was fading out of her, the stars

burning so extravagantly those nights that

anyone could tell you they would never last.

Every morning she was asleep in my bed

like a visitation, the gentleness in her

like antelope standing in the dawn mist.

Each afternoon I watched her coming back

through the hot stony field after swimming,

the sea light behind her and the huge sky

on the other side of that. Listened to her

while we ate lunch. How can they say

the marriage failed? Like the people who

came back from Provence (when it was Provence)

and said it was pretty but the food was greasy.

I believe Icarus was not failing as he fell,

but just coming to the end of his triumph.

  1. Hi! I don’t have your e-mail, but wanted to send you what I e-mailed to everyone who is going to the meet up this weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi!

I just wanted to touch base with everyone regarding this weekend. Unfortunately, Mood will be closed. It’s a bummer, but I guess that means that we will just have to plan another meet up in the future, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

All right, regarding food, when I talked to the owner of Cafe Midi he wanted to know if we would be eating lunch and I told him that we would. Sorry if this is a weird thing to say, but I wanted to encourage people to order food while we are there, considering we will be taking up a lot of tables and he originally wasn’t going to let such a large group (38!) make reservations for the time slot we wanted.

I also wanted to send out this e-mail in case anyone wanted to touch base with others in their area and carpool. There are meters on the street, but there isn’t a parking lot and it may be hard to find a spot. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up and the opportunity to communicate.

    Can’t wait for the weekend!
